SpaceX (short for Space Exploration Technologies Corp.) is a private American space company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk in 2002. The company's primary mission is to reduce space transportation costs and enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX designs, manufactures, and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft.
SpaceX's reusable rockets and spacecraft, such as the Falcon 9 rocket and the Crew Dragon spacecraft, have achieved several significant milestones, including the first privately-funded liquid-propellant rocket to reach orbit, the first privately-funded spacecraft to visit the International Space Station, and the first privately-funded spacecraft to carry astronauts to orbit and back. SpaceX is also developing the Starship spacecraft, a fully reusable rocket system that is intended to be capable of transporting humans and cargo to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.
