Symbol of Progress: PM Modi Unveils Peacock-themed Lok Sabha Hall in New Parliament Building
On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building, hailing it as a reflection of the aspirations of a new India. In his speech delivered from the grand Lok Sabha hall adorned with a peacock motif, PM Modi emphasized that the modern complex was essential due to the expected increase in the number of Parliament members. He described this moment as immortalizing a significant milestone in the nation's developmental journey, highlighting the building's significance beyond its physical structure.
PM Modi emphasized that the new Parliament building symbolizes the dreams and aspirations of India's 1.4 billion people. He stated that it sends a powerful message to the world, showcasing India's unwavering determination and democratic ethos. The Prime Minister highlighted the building's role in empowering the poor and marginalized, and he envisioned it as a catalyst for the rise of a developed India that would inspire progress in other nations.
The inauguration ceremony included a havan (fire ritual), a multi-faith prayer ceremony, and the installation of the Sengol (a traditional symbol) in a special enclosure in the Lok Sabha chamber. PM Modi addressed a gathering of Members of Parliament and distinguished guests, although around 20 opposition parties boycotted the event, citing concerns about the President's alleged sidelining.
PM Modi expressed that as India progresses, the world advances, and the new Parliament building would serve as a beacon for global development. He also highlighted the historical significance of the Sengol, considering it a symbol of duty, service, and national path from the Chola empire. PM Modi emphasized that India not only embraces democracy but also holds the status of being its mother, with Parliament serving as the best representative of this democratic inspiration.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the contribution of approximately 60,000 workers involved in the construction of the new Parliament building. He noted that the project provided employment opportunities and highlighted the dedication of a digital gallery to honor their efforts. The construction of the building, which took about two and a half years, cost an estimated ₹1,200 crore.
PM Modi drew parallels between the grandeur of the new Parliament building and his government's commitment to ground-level work, highlighting the common objective of making India a developed nation. He emphasized that every decision made in Parliament would shape the fate of all sections of society and contribute to poverty alleviation and the empowerment of marginalized communities. PM Modi called for dedicating each brick and wall of the building to the welfare of the poor.
The new Parliament building stands as a testament to India's journey towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) and a developed India (Viksit Bharat). The inauguration ceremony was attended by former President Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Ministers, foreign envoys, Parliamentarians, and individuals from various walks of life.
Constructed by Tata Projects Ltd, the triangular-shaped four-storey building covers an area of 64,500 square meters. Along with the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers, it features a grand Constitution Hall, a lounge for MPs, a library, multiple committee rooms, dining areas, and ample parking space. The building's three main gates are named Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar.
As India's new Parliament building is inaugurated, it symbolizes pride, hope, and promise for the nation's future. With a focus on empowerment and progress, it is envisioned as a cradle for nurturing dreams and propelling India to new heights of progress.
